Addicted to weaving, coiling, twining + Fibrant art group

I've been attending a natural weaving workshop for a few weeks and it's been a really wonderful experience.  I've met artists and crafters who have really inspired me and taught me so much in a few short weeks.  Now I'm hooked on weaving, coiling, twining and playing with fibre and fabric. Here's a photo below of a small dilly bag that I made. Its formed from making my own string twisted from fabric and natural plant fibre strips, then I've coiled it and stitched the coils to form a bag and added in some emu feathers for decoration.

The workshop has led me to join the Bassendean Arts Community and attend the Fibrant art group's weekly gatherings in Bassendean. I'm so impressed by all the talented artists in this group! On my first attendance the members had a very welcoming and embracing nature towards me, they were keen to share information, ideas, great jokes and lively conversation. They were also eager to find out more about me and my artistic pursuits. I'm now very much looking forward to going along to the group every week.  I'm hoping that I can manage to keep up with the high quality of artworks that I see them all working on each week.

When I'm not so energised to be working with paint (or more to the point: when I have no funds to purchase paint), I will be working with fibre and fabric: weaving, twining, coiling, sewing and stitching. I am keen to make some cloth dolls, jewellery and bags using some of the techniques that I've learnt on the workshop. Materials used to weave and coil are mostly free: torn strips of recycled fabric, yarn and plant fibre from your own backyard or nearby bush. Completing projects using these techniques will require a degree of patience and commitment on my part as they are time and labour intensive undertakings, but oh they are so utterly addictive and wonderful! So I am hoping my skills will develop further over the coming weeks and I will be posting some finished craftworks ready for sale in my etsy shop soon.
- I'd best be off to work then, bye for now!
