I'm just back from a short trip to Sydney. I have named it the city of stairs and perhaps I may have returned to Perth with with smaller and more toned thighs! But probably not, given that I indulged on the most enormous, scrumptious dark chocolate pie at the Guilyan coffee shop on a beautiful sunny day at Darling Harbour.
Our trip to Sydney was brilliantly timed for us to view the Archibald, Wynne and Sullman art prize shows and the art gallery of NSW. It was a real treat to view the original artworks that were entered into these major art shows. The sheer size of some of the canvases and boards was mind blowing, viewing the brush stroke marks, the gloss of the oil paint and varnish, the texture of the palette knife paintings and colours of the paint was just magnificent! It was a great experience and something to cherish. I'm in awe, amazed and inspired by the diversity and talent of Australian artists.
It was great to wonder through the other spaces and see a few great artist's original works that I love and admire: Picasso, Brett Whitely (shame that we ran out of time to visit his studio), Jeffrey Smart, John Brack, Fred Williams....so many to see.
This photo above has to be my favourite images from our art gallery tour, the expression on my husband's face alongside this whimsy installation is priceless!
Below is some photos taken of the great iconic landmarks of Sydney.
